I often am called to the classroom or office when a child acts out and asked what I can do to help the child, however I am not equipped with enough information to do anything except try and calm the situation, yet the types of interaction often needed are the connections between teachers and students. There appears to be a lack of communication or misunderstanding of what is taking place and how to resolve the problem.
After reading the essential element I wonder if a majority of the classroom issues and outburst are manifestations of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. The reading gives me pause to consider the issues I see on a daily basis from children, and it is usually the same children being dealt with, but not knowing or the child not being diagnosed could be the culprit of so many problems we see in our children today.
